Natural Facial Toner

Hi guys! I wanted to share a recent product I’ve discovered that I am absolutely in love with.

My skin has always been difficult to maintain, but since I’ve incorporated Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner into my routine 2 months ago, I’ve noticed a drastic difference in my skin health and appearance. Being quite pale, any slight skin irritation I have becomes a red blotch almost immediately. This, combined with my combination skin, has always challenged me to find a toner that is non-drying yet can cleanse my skin.

Then I decided to purchase this product from my local Goodness Me. I was excited about the fact that it is all-natural and filled with skin-loving ingredients such as:

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Certified Organic Filet Of Aloe Vera)

Aloe is anti-inflammatory and helps soothe your skin.

Hamamelis Virginiana Extract (made from Certified Organic Witch Hazel)

Witch Hazel is a key ingredient that fights off acne, reduces redness and swelling, and helps to naturally heal psoriasis and eczema.

My personal favourite is the Rose Petal scent. It smells fresh, pretty and feminine, yet subtle.

The Thayers brand has been around since 1847 and have stayed to their true, natural roots. The products are 100% vegan and naturally preserved with Grapefruit Seed Extract.

I have seen the 12 oz bottle available in Ontario anywhere from $12.99 to $17.99. It lasts quite a while, I use it at least 2-3 times a day, and after 2 months I am only half done the bottle.

If you are looking to freshen up your beauty routine or swap out your products for natural options, I would highly recommend checking this product out!

The “OTHER” Best Facial Cleanser

So, a while back I posted about my favourite facial cleanser being coconut oil. That’s it, just pure coconut oil! And while I still love it for being so multipurpose, I’ve also discovered a single product that will replace just about every household cleaner I own.

Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap!

What makes this soap so exciting? Well first, let’s look at the ingredients in my favourite scent, lavender:

Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Palm Kernel Oil*, Organic Olive Oil*, Lavandin Extract, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Lavender Extract, Citric Acid, Tocopherol
** None remains after saponifying oils into soap & glycerin.

That’s it! Completely natural, skin-loving ingredients. What is there not to love! But does it work? Well, let’s just say I may have reassigned my coconut oil as my favourite moisturizer and promoted this product to my favourite facial cleanser. And also my favourite body wash and dish soap. If you check out Lisa Bronner’s website, she provides a great list of uses and recommended dilutions. That is actually another reason why this product is so great, you literally need just a few drops to get a great lather and a great clean.

The last thing I love about this product is the price. I buy my 16oz bottle for $10.99 CAD!

Overall, this product is highly recommended for anyone who is looking to make the switch to a natural, effective product without breaking the bank.

Back at It!

So, I realize it has been some time since I last posted.

Well – I’m back and ready to share my thoughts and reviews on everything from pet to wellness and everything in between! I have also added a page for Reviews – products, restaurants, movies – all of it. Stay tuned…

Essential Oils

So I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share this under “Wellness” or “Beauty” since essential oils apparently can contribute to both, but I’ve decided to post under wellness since it is a key factor is beauty.

A friend of mine recently hosted a doTerra party. What is that? I asked the same thing. To be honest, doTerra is one of those pyramid arrangements that pull people into selling the product. This is not my thing. But I figured since this is becoming a more common natural healing method, I would go to be supportive, check out the products and learn more about essential oils.

By the end of the night, I had purchased the following items:

  • Diffuser
  • Lavender oil (for relaxing, anti-anxiety)
  • OnGuard oil (immunity boosting blend)
  • ClaryCalm oil (for hormone imbalances ie. cramps, mood swings)
  • Plus I got a free Wild Orange oil (mood enhancer)

My friend had also made me a “roller ball” blend with Lavender and Tea Tree Oil for my eczema.

Now, I’ve just begun using these products, but as I continue I will update you on their effects. I will also share what I learn about essential oils in general with you.

Maybe it is just a placebo, or maybe it works, but of the week I’ve been using them, I’m finding that I am sleeping well after using the Lavender Oil. I am also finding my eczema on my hands is repairing itself more quickly than normal with the Lavender/Tea Tree oil blend.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Knitting Bee

I have come to realize I may be a little old lady trapped in a twenty-something year old’s body.

My favourite things to do are:
(1) knit
(2) drink tea
(3) stay in on a Friday night with the love of my life.

That’s okay, I have completely accepted it. While I may have overlooked the partying stage that many of my friends still enjoy, I have found what makes me happy. I met the most amazing man, bought a beautiful house, and was blessed with the engaging career.

Just remember, do what makes you happy, and be done with all the rest 🙂

Best Natural Facial Cleanser

Ladies (and Gentlemen!), if you’re anything like me, you love products that are as natural and pure as possible. Well, get ready to clear out your bathroom shelves. Throw away all of your unnatural, chemically composed facial cleansers, and make room for Coconut Oil!

That’s right, I am actually suggesting you start cleansing your face with anoil! Won’t it leave your skin in the exact opposite state you were trying to achieve with harsh chemical cleansers to dry out excess oil? Yes and no. By washing your face with oil-removing cleansers, you are stripping away your skin’s natural oils. This signals your body to overproduce oils in your skin to compensate for the oils you strip away. This leaves your skin extra oily, which causes pimples.

By washing your skin with pure coconut oil (yes – that’s all you need!), you are balancing out your skin’s natural oils, removing dirt off your skin’s surface, while leaving your skin super moisturized. No need for additional moisturizing, your skin will feel great!

In addition to having clean, well moisturized skin, these are the many benefits I discovered for swapping my cleanser for coconut oil:

– makes a great make up remover. It removes the most stubborn make up easily. Your make up will just slide right off.
– coconut oil has a natural SPF . By layering your skin lightly with coconut oil, you’re using approximately SPF 4 to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
– it has a light refreshing scent.
– what’s better than a natural cleanser? a natural exfoliator! Mix in some baking soda for a great new product.
easy on the budget. Personally, I swapped out my $16 cleanser AND $10 moisturizer for a 500mL jar of coconut (less than $10). This lasts me for months, using it at least twice a day, everyday (not always on my face 🙂 see below).
– I also replaced my body butters with coconut oil as well. It makes a great moisturizer for any part of your body. It also makes a great lip moisturizer. Needless to say, coconut oil is the best $10 I’ve ever spent!

When I first replaced my cleanser with coconut oil, I immediately noticed a difference. My skin had a healthy glow within days. Although I must admit, I used way too much my first time using with this natural product. When I applied my make up after, it kind of slid all over the place. I actually started wearing less make up because I just LOVED how my skin looks! The key to coconut oil is you don’t need to use a ton to see results.

Personally, I use Grace Virgin Coconut Oil, but any virgin or extra virgin coconut oil works great. I bought mine at Bulk Barn, but you can find it in many natural and health food stores.

If you give it a try, let me know how you like it! It definitely made a difference in my skin, and I hope you see the same results! 🙂
